WHAT IS COURSE PLACEMENT?

Course placement is a part of registering for classes where we assess your reading, 写作, 还有数学技能. It's an important step that helps us and you make sure you register for courses that are the best fit for you.

We can measure where your skills are currently in several different ways, 包括通过行为, 坐, 或P坐分数, 高中GPA, or previous college credit you've earned. If you don't have any of those, you can complete our free 知识的评估 to help develop your customized learning path to better prepare you for courses.

Work with your advisor to complete one of the two options below before you register for classes.

    Before you register for classes, you'll be asked to upload documentation that helps us assess your readiness for college-level coursework in reading, 写作, 还有数学技能 in order to place you into coursework that is appropriate for your skill level. One way you can do this is to submit test scores or transcripts. If you already uploaded these documents when you applied to Ivy Tech, you will not need to do it again.

    B. 成绩单

    In place of test scores, you can also submit your high school transcript. If you have a 高中GPA of 2.6或更高的4.0 scale* you will not need to take a placement test. If your GPA is lower, you will need to take the 知识的评估 to prepare you for courses.

    If you have already earned college credits in 英语 or math, or been awarded an associate degree or higher at another college or university you will not need to take a placement test. International students need to supply a NACES-approved transcript.

    If you have test scores or high school or college transcripts, you have until the end of the term for which you orignally applied to return to your application and upload your assessment documents (note that the documents you upload do not need to be official). If that time has passed, speak with your advisor about your options.

    *GPA after six completed semesters if still in high school or at graduation with a Core 40, 技术荣誉, or Academic Honors diploma or equivalent within the last four years.

    If you don’t have any of the scores or documents listed on the container above, or your scores don't meet the minimum thresholds, 别担心. Ivy Tech is committed to helping you succeed! You can assess for success by evaluating your skills with our 知识的评估. 知识的评估 is a free web-based tool that helps gauge your skills in reading, 写作, 和数学. 

    诊断测试

    As part of the assessment, you will take a diagnostic test in math and/or 英语 based on the requirements of your academic program. If you reach the target score after taking the diagnostic, you are ready to register for your course!

    Customized Study Path

    After you complete the assessment, you will have a chance to improve your scores through a customized Study Path to better prepare you for courses. If you do not achieve a passing score, we encourage you to study and take the assessment again. You can take it as many times as you need.

评估 Document Formats

The documents you upload do not need to be official.

Formats we accept include .医生, .多克斯, .jpg, .jpeg, .pdf, .png, .tif,和 .tiff.

We’ll also accept a digital photo of your transcripts and test scores—although the following items must be clearly visible:

  • Name of institution (for high school and college transcripts)
  • Degree awarded (for college transcripts)
  • Coursework and grades (for high school and college transcripts)
  • Cumulative GPA (for high school transcripts)
  • Date of test (坐, 行为, and P坐分数s – must be within the last four years)
  • Test scores (坐, 行为, and P坐分数s)

During the application process or your first term at Ivy Tech:

After your first term:

If the term you applied for has passed, you will be unable to upload documents via the general application portal and will need to bring any assessment documents or transfer credit evaluation documents to your nearest Ivy Tech campus 招生 Center.

Uploading 评估文件

After you have submitted your application, you will have the opportunity to upload assessment documents—such as 坐/行为/P坐分数s or high school and college transcripts—that demonstrate your college readiness and help us make sure you are taking classes that are the right fit for you.

Follow the steps below to submit your 坐, 行为, 或P坐分数, high school transcript, or college transcript(s) for assessment. 

  1. Click this link to access your saved or submitted application: http://forms.023yyzs.com/f/apply_save 
  2. Enter your date of birth and the email address you submitted on your application to have a link to your saved application emailed to you.
  3. Go to the email sent to you and click on the link to return to your application.
  4. Select that you have transcripts or test scores to upload, and proceed with submitting your documents.
  5. 一周内, you should receive an email, 文本, and letter letting you know that your scores or transcripts have been reviewed.

Accepted Document Formats

Note that the documents for assessment do not need to be official, so you can submit them in a variety of formats. See accepted document formats

Unable to Upload 评估文件?

If you are unable to upload documents via the portal, you will need to visit your nearest Ivy Tech campus Local 招生 Center.

Deadline to Upload 评估文件

If you don't have your test scores or transcripts at your fingertips while you're filling out the Ivy Tech admissions application, 别担心! Just go ahead and submit your application. You have until the end of the term for which you applied to return to your application and upload your assessment documents.
